“偶”
"偶" (OU) is often referenced by Chinese people as the word for "puppet." With this symbolic reference to "ou," I am inspired to tell the story of two boys struggling to preserve the spirit of traditional puppet opera while navigating the generational shifts in art during early 20th-century Chinese society, a time marked by extreme conservatism. I firmly believe that the development of the arts requires both innovation and bold change. Through the genre of Chinese horror, however, I aim to showcase my aesthetic standards and artistic vision, blending tradition with contemporary perspectives to create something fresh and thought-provoking.

Inspiration
At the beginning of my second year in university, I took a course focused on Chinese cinema. As I analyzed a variety of films spanning the 20th and 21st centuries, I became drawn to the visual style and the unique atmosphere that older films possess. However, my most profound inspiration came from the film Farewell My Concubine. Beyond its themes of love, I saw in the film the persistence of older artists, whose devotion to tradition contrasted sharply with the rebelliousness of the younger generation. This dynamic created a spontaneous connection in my heart, as I recognized the struggle between upholding artistic standards and embracing change.
Artists, I realized, have both standards and persistence, but as art forms evolve—such as the transition from traditional opera to film—the tension between the older and younger generations of artists becomes more pronounced. I became curious about how older artists adapt to new forms of art while maintaining their connection to tradition. This curiosity led me to research further and ultimately decide to write my own story. I believe it is essential to embrace innovation, but it is equally important to recognize the value and beauty of traditional art. Through my work, I aim to explore this balance between honoring the past and embracing the future.
This film is currently in the planning and script development stage. However, I am determined to see it through to completion, regardless of how long it takes or how much time I need to wait. I have invested a great deal of hope and expectation into this project, and I am committed to bringing it to life in the future.
